KNITTING
 
Beginning Knitting with MYS Staff
During the first 2 classes, you will learn to cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease & cast off. On the 3rd class session, you will pick out an easy project, learn to read knitting instructions & work on your chosen project for the remainder of the course. Fee: $76/4 week session

Note:  All materials must be purchased from Mosaic Yarn Studio, Ltd.  Beginning Knitting can be taken twice.

Intermediate Knitting
You will learn more advanced techniques of your choice. For example, you can choose a simple cabled sweater pattern, a fair isle pattern, an intarsia pattern - the choice is yours! This class can be taken over and over and over and over...

After Thought Set-in-Sleeves with Darlene Joyce
In this class, students will make a simple tank top using Fiber Trends pattern LL480 (Basic Tank) and learn how to add set-in-sleeves by picking up stitches along the armhole and knitting the sleeve down. Japanese short rows will be used. Choose your favorite worsted weight yarn that will knit at 4.5 sts=1” and begin making the tank at the first class. You can make the sweater as long or short as you like! There are skipped weeks in the class to allow for knitting time. Students should do a gauge swatch before class.

Zigging Hat with June Sorensen
Learn the basics of fair isle knitting. Hat can be made in fingering or dk weight yarn and can be made from newborn to large adult. Permission given by designer Sarah Ronchetti to teach this class. Pattern is available through Ravelry.

Finishing with Darlene Joyce
Learn professional finishing techniques that will make your sweater look “handmade” rather than “homemade.” The class includes ideas on planning for finishing, weaving in ends, calculating the pick up sequence along edges, etc. Using swatches that you prepare before class, you will practice seaming techniques and leave with skills that will make finishing a pleasant experience rather than a nightmare. The Lucy Bag with Darlene Joyce
This special bag begins from the bottom with 8 stitches and increases out. You will learn “Emily Ocker’s Beginning” using a crochet hook. The long strap smartly threads through the short loop to close the top. Finish your bag with a novel button or pin and your ready to go!

Lintilla with Darlene Joyce
Part of her “Hitchhiker Series”, Martina Belm describes her love for garter stitch and her design, Lintilla. “Most hand-dyed yarns look really fab in it. So I just could not resist to design another little garter stitch shawlette: Lintilla. It comes with a special long and narrow triangular, slightly asymmetrical construction and a beautiful scalloped, subtly ruffled edge that is really fun to make.” Permission was granted from designer to teach this class at MYS.

My First Sweater with Darlene Joyce
Use Ann Budd’s book, The Knitter’s Handy Book of Patterns and the yarn of your choice to make a basic pullover sweater or cardigan in any size. The set-in-sleeve is flattering to almost all body types. Couture techniques are taught to refine your knitting repertoire.  In order to allow for knitting time, this class meets every other week.

Choosing the Right Yarn & Blocking with Darlene Joyce
Learn how to choose the right yarn for any project. Students will learn how to read yarn labels, how different fibers behave, how to substitute yarns, how to determine yardage needed and how to make a measureable gauge swatch. Students will also learn the basics of blocking, including wet blocking, mist blocking and steam blocking and when to use each technique.

Ribbons Baby Blanket with June Sorensen
Designed by Evelyn E. Clark, these Quaker Rib blankets, are knit in the round from the center out, with an optional raised petal center. Chose from 3 weights of yarn

Changing Commercial Patterns to Fit  with Darlene Joyce
(A willingness to measure oneself required!)
Are you frustrated with the way that sweaters fit you? Did you follow the directions carefully and still find that your sweaters do not quite look right on you? Come learn how you can make some simple changes to commercial patterns to ensure that they fit you. Selection of patterns that are flattering to your unique figure will also be discussed.

Basic Socks with Darlene Joyce
Knit a basic sock using fine needles and special sock yarn. You will learn to use double pointed needles, turn a heel and create a gusset. The instructor will discuss ways to ensure a proper fitting sock.

Designing a Crescent Shaped Shawl with Darlene Joyce
Learn how to plan and knit a crescent shaped shawl. Students will work with the yarn of their choice, pick a lace border and work short rows to shape their shawl.

CROCHETING
 

Beginning/ Intermediate Crochet with Kathy Kelly

This class is for crocheters of any skill level.  It is tailored around what you know and what you'd like to learn.  If you're new to crochet, you'll get started with chain, single, and double crochet stitches.  Already know the basics?  Then learn to read patterns and stitch diagrams.  If you want to learn classics like granny squares, doilies, motifs, or filet crochet, only your imagination is the limit!  Come prepared with a project of your choosing, and let's get started.  All yarn must be purchased from MYS.

Elise Shawl with Kathy Kelly

This lovely neck down shawl shows off our 15th anniversary custom dye Mosaic yarn perfectly. Whether you like written words or charts, this shawl works up quickly. Permission to teach this class granted by designer.

Doris Chan's All Shawl with Kathy Kelly                                    Make a shawlette and learn some special stitches. We’ll work foundation single crochet, extended double crochet, and get a feel for Chan’s unique pattern design. Permission to teach this class granted by the designer.

Floral Lace Scarf with Kathy Kelly                                        Crochet a summery floral scarf. Beautiful floral motifs are worked all in one piece so there are few ends to weave in.  Designer Sherry Ramaila has granted permission for us to offer this class.

Crochet Irish Rose with Kathy Kelly                                   
Try out Irish Crochet and make a basic Irish Rose motif. We’ll make this using worsted weight yarn but it can be made with finer yarn also. This would make a nice decoration for a hat, headband, purse or sweater

Broomstick Crochet Cuff with Kathy Kelly
Learn how to do broomstick lace. You will use a US 35 knitting needle for the “broomstick” and a size D crochet hook. Choose the perfect buttons and get ready to receive all the compliments. The cuff was designed by Kathy Kelly.

Baby Surprise with Kathy Kelly                                   
Learn how to crochet this striped, mitered sweater in the style of EZ’s Baby Surprise. Kathy will help you decide on stripe placement, show you how to work mitered corners using both increases and decreases and how to sew the final seam for a cute, adorable sweater that will look cute on any baby

Class Materials:
Except when noted, yarns must be purchased from Mosaic Yarn Studio. Come in as soon as possible to pick out your supplies in case we need to order something. Students receive a 10% discount on all class materials!
Registration:
Registration is required for all classes. 100% of the class fee is due at registration. You may register by phone via Visa/Mastercard/American Express or use our online secure  shopping cart.  Of course, you can always register in person!
Minimum:
A minimum of three students is required in order for a class to run. You will be notified one week in advance if the minimum is not met and your deposit will be refunded.
Balance:
The balance of the class fees is due on the first day of class.
Cancellation:
Store credit can be issued for your deposit if we are notified one week before the start of class. After this point, deposits are non-refundable. Out of courtesy to our instructors, no make-up classes are given.
 
Special Fee Classes:
100% payment is due at the time of registration.
