KNITTING

 

Beginning Knitting with MYS Staff
During the first 2 classes, you will learn to cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease & cast off. On the 3rd class session, you will pick out an easy project, learn to read knitting instructions & work on your chosen project for the remainder of the course. Fee: $76/4 week session

Note:  All materials must be purchased from Mosaic Yarn Studio, Ltd.  Beginning Knitting can be taken twice.

Entrelac Technique with Judy Chan                                                    Learn the basic technique of entrelac including making base triangles, side triangles, rectangles and top triangles.  This is a completely NO SEW technique that forms a basketweave look.  Pick out 300 yards of worsted weight yarn (Noro Kureyon & Silk Garden work especially nice) and a size 6 needle.  Students will make a sample that can be folded into a purse or pillow or continued into a scarf.

Color: Fair Isle & Intarsia with Kris Neuarauter                                Explore ways to incorporate color into your knitting, including fair isle and intarsia technique.  Students must have Sally Melville’s  Book 3, The Knitting Experience:  Color.  Please pick up materials sheet.

  Fee:  $50 4 hour class with a lunch break  
 

Totally Tubular with Kris Neurauter                                                         This unique felted bag uses plastic tubing as handles.  Learn how to knit over the tubing, basic grafting and picking up and knitting stitches while you make Totally Tubular, one of the new MYS designs.

  Fee:  $50 2 week class  
 

Set-in-Sleeves in the Round with Darlene Joyce                              Learn to knit a set-in-sleeve pullover or cardigan in the round.  Students must come to class with a stockinette stitch swatch and be ready to be measured.  Using Sweater Wizard, Darlene will print out a custom pattern to fit each student’s unique body measurements.  Students will learn how to knit sleeves from the armhole down using short row shaping.  Homework required.

Continental (European) Knitting with Judy Chan                         Learning continental knitting, sometimes called picking, can help give you options while knitting.  Some knitters find that they can knit more evenly and quickly with this method.

My First Sweater with Darlene Joyce                                                       Use Ann Budd’s book, The Knitter’s Handy Book of Patterns and the yarn of your choice to make a basic pullover sweater or cardigan in any size.  The set-in-sleeve is flattering to almost all body types.  Couture techniques are taught to refine your knitting repertoire.

Multi-directional Scarf with Judy Chan                                                  Have fun with a new way to make a scarf.  This scarf uses short rows and changes directions as you knit, resulting in interlocking triangles.  It is surprisingly easy and fun to do.  Use novelty yarns like Prism for a more dressy look or a self-striping yarn like Noro for a more casual look

Correcting Mistakes with Darlene Joyce                                                Are you tired of running in to the shop every time the stitches fall off the needle?  Come and learn how to correct common mistakes made while knitting.  You will learn to pick up dropped stitches in stockinette, garter, and at the end of the row.   The class will include exercises in dropping down pattern stitches, picking up dropped stitches and ripping out rows of knitting and getting stitches back on the needle.  Please pick up homework sheet.

Crayon Box Jacket with Darlene Joyce                                                   Learn how to combine different weights of yarns and work mitered squares to create Chris Bylsma’s one-of-kind Crayon Box Jacket.  No two jackets are the same!  Children’s sizing also available

Crystalline Shawl with Judy Chan                                                     Designed by Karen Joan Raz, this beautiful lace shawl has a unique shape.  Using simple decreases and yarn overs, this elegant shawl is not as difficult as it looks.  Judy will give tips on how to read a lace chart and how to block the finished shawl.

The Icing with Kris Neurauter                                                              

Learn a new cable technique while making a top-down raglan sweater.  The Icing, an MYS design, uses unique cables that act as buttonholes.  This class is perfect for knitters looking for a second sweater or a first sweater with a bit of a challenge.

Felted Bowls with Darlene Joyce                                                          Learn how to make a basic felted bowl.  Bring two skeins of worsted weight wool (i.e. Ella Rae classic)--two skeins will make two bowls and a 24” circular and double pointed needle in size 11 .  Students will learn how to work an applied I-cord to the top of the bowl before felting and how to felt the bowl in the washing machine.  Pattern is free!

Crochet Workshop with Marilyn Speh                                                           Learn the basics of crochet and get help on more complicated patterns. Marilyn will help you at your level.  Please bring a size “G” hook and a skein of worsted weight yarn (i.e. Encore).

Wisteria Crocheted Necklace with Marilyn Speh                                With just one skein of Tao Silk, learn how to read English directions and create a beautiful necklace. Nine motifs are joined together to complete the piece.

Crochet Prayer Shawl with Marilyn Speh                                                Learn to make the “Prayer for Comfort” shawl using simple double crochet stitches, a G crochet hook  and worsted weight yarn.  Students must purchase Quick-to-Stitch Prayer Shawls book.

Braiding
 

Kumihimo Fiber Necklaces  with Marilyn Speh                                         Kumihimo is the Japanese art of braiding.  It means the “gathering of threads”.  In this class you will spend some time picking fibers for your necklace, purse handle, cording for a sweater or possibly a belt.  There are many uses for a braided cord.  For those wishing to make a necklace, there will be an optional class for $10 to finish the necklace with wire and findings.

Learn to Knit Cables with Kris Neurauter                                               Explore cables stitches.  Learn the basics of twisting stitches and deciphering graphics.  Students will learn how to use a cable needle, how to create twist stitches without a cable needles and work on sample cable patterns following graphs.  Bring a size 8 knitting needle, a cable needle and worsted weight yarn.

CLASS POLICIES
Class Materials:
Except when noted, yarns must be purchased from Mosaic Yarn Studio. Come in as soon as possible to pick out your supplies in case we need to order something. Students receive a 10% discount on all class materials!
Registration:
Registration is required for all classes. 100% of the class fee is due at registration. You may register by phone via Visa/Mastercard/American Express or use our online secure  shopping cart.  Of course, you can always register in person!
Minimum:
A minimum of three students is required in order for a class to run. You will be notified one week in advance if the minimum is not met and your deposit will be refunded.
Balance:
The balance for class fees is due on the first day of class.
Cancellation:
Store credit can be issued for your deposit if we are notified one week before the start of class. After this point, deposits are non-refundable. Out of courtesy to our instructors, no make-up classes are given.
 
Special Fee Classes:
100% payment is due at the time of registration.
