Beginning Crochet (in person)

Sundays, February 18 to March 10, 2 - 3:30 p.m. with Georg Saturdays, March 2 to 30 (No Class March 16), 1-2:30 p.m. with Darlene Sundays, March 17 to April 14 (No Class March 31), 2-3:30 p.m. with Georg Thursdays, April 4 to 25, 1 - 2:30 p.m. with Susan This class is for beginners. You'll get started with chain, single crochet and double crochet stitches the first two classes. Choose a skein of Plymouth Encore yarn and a H hook and you will be on your way! On the 3rd class, you will pick out an easy project, learn to read simple crochet instructions & work on your chosen project for the remainder of the course.

Saturdays, February 24 to March 9, 2 - 4 p.m. Knit a basic sock using fine needles and special sock yarn. You will learn to use double pointed needles, turn a heel and create a gusset. If you desire, you can use the Addi Turbo Easy Knits to start the sock and then switch to the double points at the heel turn. The instructor will discuss ways to ensure a proper fitting sock.

Saturday, March 30, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. This class is for students who know some basics of crochet. Darlene will you walk you through making a cowl using chain, slip stitch & hdc.

Saturday, April 6, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Learn to knit a basic fair isle hat. You will choose your own motifs and color combinations. Please bring a 16" circular needle size 7. Homework: Cast on 100 stitches on a 16" circular needle size US 5, join in the round and work in ribbing for 1 1/4".

Wednesday, March 6, 20 & April 3, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Learn the parts of the loom and weaving terminology. Students will assemble their loom, warp it and do a balanced weave using worsted weight yarn purchased from MYS. This basic class is a spring board for more advanced weaving technique classes to come. If bringing own loom, make sure it is a rigid heddle and is no bigger than 20". Check with Georg if uncertain.

Saturdays, April 6, 20, May 4, 18 & June 8, 12 - 2 p.m. Use Ann Budd's book "The Knitter's Handy Book of Patterns" and the yarn of your choice to make a basic pullover sweater or cardigan in any size. The set-in-sleeve is flattering to almost all body types. Couture techniques are taught to refine your knitting repertoire, including measuring your body, adjusting the pattern, paired increases/decreases, selvedge edges, sloped bind off, seaming, and picking up stitches.
