Grace Akhrem Workshops: 10 (More) Things Every Knitter Should Know

Grace will show us 10 More Things Every Knitter Should Know.  Last year, she taught us 7 Things Every Knitter Should Know and now she is going to expound on that idea.  Although she is not going to repeat the 7 things from last year, it is not required that you have taken that workshop already.  

1) How to pick up stitches
2)  Invisible provisional cast on
3)  Magic loop
4) Cabling without a cable needle
5)  Jogless seam when striping in the round
6)  How to carry your yarn when striping
7)  Tubular cast on
8)  How to get rid of your know when making a slip knot
9)  Three needle bind off
10)  I-cord

Materials:

•       Worsted weight yarn in a solid (no heathers) light color that is also smooth in texture (Stonehedge Shepherd’s Wool Worsted is perfect)
•       Worsted weight waste yarn in a contrasting color from the yarn you chose above. Make sure this is a solid color (that isn’t dark) and smooth in texture.  You will need about 2 - 4 yards.
•       Size 7 U.S. 32” circular needles
•       Size 7 U.S. single point/straight needles
•       Size 7 U.S. double point needles
•       Size 7 U.S or 4.5 mm crochet hook
•       Scissors
•       Stitch markers
•       Pencil for note-taking

Homework:

Swatch #1: 5”x5” swatch in Stockinette Stitch worked in the worsted weight yarn listed above finished and blocked before class.

Swatch #2: CO 40 sts. Row 1: *K4, p4; repeat from * to end of row. Repeat this row working in 4x4 rib until piece measures 2” from CO edge.
