When you knit a stitch with its yarn over, it's called brioche knit, also known as a bark. When you purl a stitch with its yarn over, it's called a brioche purl, also know as a burp. With practice, it is actually not hard to do.
You will need two contrasting colors of worsted weight yarn and a size US 7 24" circular needle to make practice swatches.
