NEW!! Pre-Order Kairos Shawl & Cowl Kits by Emma's Yarn!! We expect our kits to arrive any time now, so we will contact you (or ship your order) as soon as they come in!

Emma’s Yarn has teamed up with designer, Laura Nelkin, to bring you the Kairos Cowl and Shawl Kits!

These two accessories are inspired by the randomly beaded stitch she created for Kairos Cuff a few summers ago.

“Kairos” is an Ancient Greek word meaning the right, or critical time for action. It’s aptly named because no matter what time of year it is, you’re going to want to start knitting these right away!

The kits come with a full size skein of Emma’s Yarn Practically Perfect Sock, a contrasting mini-skein, a tin with 40 grams of a custom Japanese glass seed bead mix, and a leather clasp handmade for Kairos in Hector, NY.

Your kit will make a Kairos Cuff, and either the Kairos Shawl or Cowl. The cuff is a great way to practice the beaded stitch AND it can be used either on your wrist or wrapped around your new accessory to hold it in place.

Pattern NOT included in kits.

KAIROS COWL

Kairos Cowl starts with a long garter-stitch band, which is then twisted and grafted together to create a mobius strip. Stitches are picked up along the edge of the strip and joined into the round. A contrasting color is introduced to create a simple striping pattern along the continuous edge.

This cowl is finished with the beaded Kairos stitch and then bound off. The pre-strung beads add a great pop of color as they sit on top of the ribbed fabric. An exclusive video tutorial is included with this pattern to walk you through the construction and beading.

KAIROS SHAWL

Kairos Shawl casts on at one tip and increases towards the center, where a relaxing textured stitch is worked in two-colors before launching you into the central Kairos panel. A little more texture is worked before decreasing across the second wing of the shawl, working to the opposite tip. Stitches are then picked up along the bottom edge, where a playful striped edging is worked with a beaded picot bind off.

Kairos shawl is deliberately designed to have a narrow width at the back and elongated length at the sides, to give the illusion of a larger shawl than you typically get from one skein. Once you get started you’ll have this spunky, sparkly shawl knit up in no time!
